ELYRIA, Ohio ? A couple?that is hearing impaired is now homeless after a fire gutted their home last Saturday morning and now they are?in?need of help.
Steven Johnson and his girlfriend, Kayla Miller, grabbed their two small children,?a 1-year-old and a 4-month-old, and ran out of their Sixth Street home in Elyria as quickly as they could. They?were alerted by their landlord that the home they were renting was on fire.
?They smelled smoke in, around the room when?I woke up and I saw smoke everywhere in my room.? Got baby Alicia and my dog out.? Everybody is OK but we are just really sad,? said Steven Johnson.
Now the couple is left with nothing and looking for answers for the Saturday morning fire.
All of their?children?s baby clothes, shoes and toys are gone, as they left everything inside when they ran out of the house to safety.?
The roof of the home was almost destroyed and fire investigators were on the scene estimating the damage.
The couple is currently on disability and are asking for help to overcome their?ordeal.
The Red Cross and family members have been helping them but it?s just not enough when they lost everything that was burned up in the house.
?Red Cross give me some money for clothes for baby and some of my family give it to them but we still need some more,? said Johnson.
If you?d like to help Steven Johnson and his family, donations can be made at any FirstMerit Bank.
